The freedom to work from anywhere has changed the way millions of people think about where they live. But while most remote work guides focus on cheap rent, good weather and fast WiFi, there are more important questions: where can I feel safe and have good healthcare?
To answer these questions, PDFFly analyzed 50 countries with active digital nomad visa programs using data from leading sources, including Numbeo and the UN. All the countries were ranked across five evidence-based metrics: healthcare quality, personal safety, global peace, life expectancy, and air quality. Here are the top 10 destinations for working safely and staying healthy.

Methodology
PDFFly analyzed 50 countries with active digital nomad visa programs using five equally weighted metrics, each normalized to a 0–1 scale (1 = best):
1. Healthcare Index (quality and accessibility of healthcare) — Numbeo 2026
2. Safety Index (perceived crime and personal safety) — Numbeo 2026
3. Global Peace Index (level of societal safety and conflict) — Institute for Economics & Peace, 2025
4. Life Expectancy at Birth (average years a newborn is expected to live) — UN World Population Prospects 2024 (estimates through 2023)
5. PM2.5 Annual Mean (fine particulate air pollution) — IQAir 2025 World Air Quality Report, Historical Rankings
GPI and PM2.5 are inverted during normalization (lower = better). Final Score = arithmetic mean of all five normalized scores. Three countries were excluded due to insufficient data (Barbados, Cape Verde, Seychelles).
